EDUCATION

Citizen Science

Connecting Community, Science and Sea Country

Citizen science gives everyday people the opportunity to learn about the natural world and contribute to a greater understanding of our environment.

Our education activities connect marine turtle conservation with the wider story of the Capricorn Coast and southern Great Barrier Reef - from our beaches and coastal waters to seagrass meadows, coral reefs and the Capricorn-Bunker Group.

Learning Through Participation

Citizen science encourages people to look more closely at the environment around them - to observe, ask questions, learn and understand how information can contribute to science and conservation.

CCMC is working to build citizen science into future education, conservation and research activities as our organisation and marine turtle rehabilitation project develop.

Where appropriate, we aim to work alongside researchers, universities, Traditional Owners, government agencies and established citizen science programs, rather than duplicate existing work.

Citizen Science & Education

Citizen science is an important part of our community and school education activities.

By introducing young people and community members to citizen science, we can help build environmental knowledge, curiosity and a stronger connection with the marine environment.

Growing Our Citizen Science Program

CCMC's citizen science activities will continue to develop alongside our partnerships, research collaborations and marine conservation projects.

As new opportunities become available, we will share ways for schools, volunteers and community members to participate.
